Administration/ Management Features

Below are the main features of the Administration of a Human Communities template.

PhpBB 2.20
The core of the site. We use this to provide all the user registration and management tools. From here we add on a range of mods to bring the site up to it’s current level. Phpbb is the worlds most popular forum software.

Attachments
Configuration, limits on file sizes, file types and how they are accessed

Weblog Admin
Add, remove and edit the “actions” that your Blog users can use in their entries, configure the setting for the Weblogs News page, Set various options of The Blog Mod, such as whether or not blogs are censored, require authentication, faceplates, picture uploading, sort orders, Mood editing utility, change user permissions, and delete entries/weblogs from the database (normally, weblogs and entries aren’t deleted, just flagged for deletion)

Calendar
Set all the necessary variables for your calendar from start day, permissions, categories, limitations, Groups or user access

Classified Ads
Run your own classifieds section, configurable categories, paid or unpaid adverts, paypal integration

Downloads
Total configuration of what files can be downloaded from the site, by user, group, forum, topic, size

eXtreme Styles
Don’t like the look, then create your own and allow people to choose their own colour schemes

FIND
Determine and Deliver Newsfeed content directly into your forums. Fully configurable, even a supplied set to get you started

Forum Admin
Unlimited Categories, forums, Sub Forums and Topics, each with their own configurable access according to individuals or groups. You can set the permissions across the board, Complete pruning capabilities to keep your site neat

Gallery 2
Fully configurable image gallery program, from print out services, to file size types, gallery limitations, user, group viewing limitations,

General Admin

Mass Email
You can email a message to either all of your users or all users of a specific group. To do this, an email will be sent out to the administrative email address supplied, with a blind carbon copy sent to all recipients. When you click the ‘E-mail’ button, another screen will come up allowing you to designate the groups you want to include in the email. If you are emailing a large group of people please be patient after submitting and do not stop the page halfway through. It is normal for a mass emailing to take a long time and you will be notified when the script has completed

Restore Database
This will perform a full restore of all phpBB tables from a saved file. If your server supports it, you may upload a gzip-compressed text file and it will automatically be decompressed. WARNING: This will overwrite any existing data. The restore may take a long time to process, so please do not move from this page until it is complete.

Smilies
you can add, remove and edit the emoticons or smileys that your users can use in their posts and private messages.

Word Censors
you can add, edit, and remove words that will be automatically censored on your forums. In addition people will not be allowed to register with usernames containing these words. Wildcards (*) are accepted in the word field. For example, *test* will match detestable, test* would match testing, *test would match detest.

Group Admin - Management
you can administer all your usergroups. You can delete, create and edit existing groups. You may choose moderators, toggle open/closed group status and set the group name and description

Group Admin - Permissions
you can alter the permissions and moderator status assigned to each user group. Do not forget when changing group permissions that individual user permissions may still allow the user entry to forums, etc. You will be warned if this is the case.

IP Log
Here you can check out who’s been connecting to your site. You can add combinations of USERNAME, BROWSER and IP that you do :not: want to log. Examples could be your own username from your static office IP, or maybe googlebot is spidering your web from some IP using googlebot in the browser-string, and you do not want to clutter your log with those entries. You have to use regular expressions. View simple stats taken from your log. Probe an IP address for open (oft used) proxy ports, backup (and localy delete) your forums IP log. If your database has gotten out of control sizewise, this might be the tool you need! It will backup the current log database to CSV files in a directory on your server, and delete those entries from the database table (if you want). On this page you can manually start the backup or load prior backed up files for viewage (with View Backup). Here you can view an old log loaded with the Log-Backup-to-File (CB2F) tool

Import Tools - Member Lists
import a list on members obtained from another source to create user accounts for all those members on your forum. The members will be imported from a file named members.csv which should be placed in the admin/import/ directory, and contain entries of the format shown below, without the header line.

Ban Control
you can control the banning of users. You can achieve this by banning either or both of a specific user or an individual or range of IP addresses or hostnames. These methods prevent a user from even reaching the index page of your board. To prevent a user from registering under a different username you can also specify a banned email address. Please note that banning an email address alone will not prevent that user from being able to log on or post to your board. You should use one of the first two methods to achieve this.

Disallow User Names
You can control usernames which will not be allowed to be used. Disallowed usernames are allowed to contain a wildcard character of *. Please note that you will not be allowed to specify any username that has already been registered. You must first delete that name then disallow it.

User Management
you can change your users’ information and certain options. To modify the users’ permissions, use the user and group permissions system.

Permissions
you can alter the permissions and moderator status assigned to each individual user. Do not forget when changing user permissions that group permissions may still allow the user entry to forums, etc. You will be warned if this is the case

Ranks
You can add, edit, view and delete ranks. You can also create custom ranks which can be applied to a user via the user management facility

Register User
register a new user to your board. Choose Simple Mode to add a user with just the basic information (username, e-mail address, and password). Or, you can choose Advanced Mode to specify as many registration details as you like

Search
perform advanced searches for users on a wide range of criteria. Please read the descriptions under each field to understand each search option completely. such as username, email, address, IP address, Users date, Group Member, Postcount, Userfields, date visited, Board language, Timezone, Board Style, Moderators, Administration

User list
View a complete list of your users and perform various actions on them

ADMINISTRATION CONTROL PANEL
User List
This MOD lets you view all of you members and various information about them in the Admin Control Panel. From the list, you can perform various actions on multiple users.

Forum Permissions List
This MOD provides a summary listing of the permissions for all of your forums on one screen, with brief tooltip explanations of what that permission setting means, as well as integrated editing of the permissions for either an individual forum, or for an entire category in one go.

Easy assign user to groups
This mod allows the admin to assign a user to any combination of groups from a single page by using the usual manage user page in the ACP.

Import Tools
This MOD will import a list of members held in a CSV* file and create user accounts for each of those members on the forum.

USER COMMUNICATIONS
Email Notification New User Registration
With this MOD, email notification will be sent to multiple ACP-configured users (preferably administrator(s)) when a new user joins

Change Email Sender
When Emails are sent from within phpBB, such as the confirm registration email these Emails come from your servers default email (usually something such as: nobody@your_hosts_server.com) - Due to some hosts starting to disable sending emails from this Email address to reduce spam phpBB is unable to send these Emails. These two small changes will make all the emails phpBB sends come from the board’s email adddress rather than the servers default address. Please note: although the email address the emails come from in phpBB before applying this change say they come from the boards email, they don’t! This is a simple php mail function to make it appear as if they do. This change won’t make any visual difference to most people but its an important change.

Mailing List
There is now a simple subscribe to mailing list on the home page for those that don’t want to register as a user. You can access its control panel from /simple/admin. It allows for the sending of both HTML and plain text emails

Confusabot ACP
Change “agreed” and “coppa” variables to confuse bots

E-Mail Spambot Fighter
To help fight spam, modifies all public e-mail addresses to display in the format: user AT domain DOT tld

Email Admin on ACP Access
Adds a feature so that if the ACP is accessed it emails the admin for security

Live Email Validate (LEV)
When a user signs up or edits their email address, this MOD will attempt to verify it via the DNS MX records and a test SMTP session, returning true or false as appropriate. In the event of failure, some server responses are displayed if DEBUG is set to true in constants.php

Redirect anonymous users to login
This very simple MOD redirects anonymous users to the login page instead of showing member, groups, or profile pages. That way anonymous users can’t see registered user’s data.

USER - MEMBERSHIP MANAGEMENT
ACP User Registration
Allows quick registration of new users to the board from within the ACP.

Advanced User Search
This is an admin module for the ACP system. It allows Searching for users based on their username, email address, date registered, usergroup, permission status (mod/admin), post count, userfields (ICQ/Yahoo/Website/Interests/etc.), Language, Last Visit, Timezone, Moderators (of a specific forum), banned users, IP address (used to post), disabled accounts and disabled PM priviliges.

Disable User Posting Privileges
Disables a user’s ability to post, reply to, edit or delete. The user can still log in, send or receive PMs, and access their profile.

Memberlist Hidden User
Adds the ability to hide users in the Memberslist via ACP ‘Manage User’

Memberlist Access
With this MOD admin can decide who gets to view the memberlist. Options include: All, registered users, moderators, admins. Options are settable from the ACP.

Send mail to user on admin (de-)activate
Normally when a user’s status (active yes/no) has been changed through the ACP, the user isn’t notified of this change. If the board requires admin/user activation and the user is activated by the admin he/she therefore has no way of knowing that the activation has taken place already. Similarly is the user has been deactivated he/she will not know this until they next try to login and then they often will not understand what’s going on. This mod fixes that. If the board requires admin/user activation and the user is activated through the ACP the activation key (if exists and is not for password change) will be deleted and the user notified by email. If then at a later stage the user is de-activated and/or activated again through the ACP the user is notified of this by email as well.

Moderator CP
This mod will add a Moderator Control Panel for all moderators.They can disallow usernames, edit smilies, manage users accounts, They have a similar link at the bottom, like the Admin. Moderators have not allowed to edit Admin’s accounts. Admin is protected against mess made by moderators.

All menu editing can now be managed through the Administration Panel

Inter - Multiple BBCode MOD
Allows you to install BBCode MODs that add quick BBCode buttons in post edits. Without this MOD, there is no standard way of installing BBCode MODs.

phpBB Fetch All
phpBB Fetch All is a modification to phpBB that displays data from the forum on any page of a website. It supports all phpBB versions from the 2.0.x branch.

eXtreme Styles mod 2
This mod is heavily optimized version of phpBB templates system and has some additional features. It compiles and executes files much faster, has cache system that speeds up templates many times, allowes to use php in templates and few other new features to style designers. Also it has huge control panel that replaces phpBB styles management with more efficient easy to use functions. It also allowes to quickly import/export styles using .style format.

Topics Anywhere
With Topics Anywhere you can place links to the topics where users have posted recently from any forum on your phpBB on any page anywhere you want (no support for PHP, SSI, or whatever needed because it uses JavaScript to show the topic titles) or get those topics as a RSS feed - this is an extremely customizable addon so it can suit your needs - you even don’t need to modify any files. All you need is phpBB running somewhere.

HTML Mod
This MOD adds an HTML BBcode to your forum, which allows you to enter HTML tags yourself when posting a message. It is also possible to post JavaScript, Flash or Java objects, Forms, etc. You can even use other BBCode tags within an HTML block! Syntax is pretty simple: [html]text[/html]. While this BBCode is powerful, it is also somehow dangerous! By default, it is only allowed for the main board administrator. It can also be allowed for other Admins or members of a usergroup via ACP.

Email posts or messages to combinations of groups
This mod allows the admin or moderator (and other users authorized in the ACP to use this feature) to email posts or mass emails to the members of one or more groups (any combination is ok) or to all active users. Whenever the admin or moderator (or authorized user) posts a post, he can check off a new option to email the post; if he checks off that option and submits the post, a new screen comes up allowing him to check off whichever groups he wants to email...when he then clicks ‘send’, the post (including the message in the post if he wants to include the message) gets emailed to those group members (the RE of the email will be filled in to read the same as the subject line of the post being emailed, but the sending user can change that to anything he wants; if he leaves that line blank the RE will get filled in to read “Important Announcement”). Similarly, when the admin sends an email using mass_email in the ACP, that same new screen comes up allowing the admin to check off whichever groups should receive the email. To deal with ISPs that prohibit emails addressed to more than a certain number of addressess, also ‘chunks’ emails into separate batches, each with no more than 100 addresses. The admin can turn chunking off or change the maximum number of addressees by changing the appropriate lines in the code.

CodeCrush IP Log
This is an IP logger, that will log the IP of anyone browsing to your phpbb forums. It also logs referral info, ACP-logins and browser revision. It keeps a log of all visitors not just posters and does a great ip lookup
