Human Communities supplies as much generic support as it can. Even this support though may require the understanding of some programs. They are simple ones and should not be too hard to get an understanding of.

View these programs as tools, tools to help you create something. Some are web-based and are platform non-specific, others suggestions for either Mac or Windows is made

The Tools
*Please Note - Experience levels vary greatly, hence you may already have decided on some tools, if not consider the options below. Before any work can commence, these tools or their equivalent should be in place. Remember we are looking at a time honoured model here of minimum effort for maximum results. These tools go along way to minimising effort. How well you use them, maximises results.

Workspaces
Given that all the work concerning your template is online, where do you practise?. Where do you centralise your work efforts from? Do you have a domain? If not consider getting one to create the workspace for you to practise within.

Firefox
This may not be as widely in use as Explorer, it is however more popular than all the others and comes with same great developer tools. Check out the Web developer 1.0.2. The ease at which you can apply and immediately see the rendered version saves hours.

Chat & File Transfer Program
AIM Messenger
MSN Messenger
These programs allow you to chat text in real time, like SMS they allow us to swap comments in real time, links and files. This reduces the cost of group communication as well as provide for better efficiencies. Both these services are NOT good at talking to each other and as Messenger seems to have more subscribers it maybe the best first choice. Human Communities suggests you subscribe to both.
Adium - Mac Only
Adium is a great way of combining all the chat services into one tool, while it does not allow video or talk, it certainly cleans up the desktop of all the different chat programs

Phone - VOIP (Voice Over IP)
Skype
Skype will introduce you to Voice over IP VOIP. This will cut down the costs of your international calls as well as provide a free voice communication channel between us and your organisation. * Make a point to check out SkypeOut which is an extension to the ordinary Skype Service and enables you to SMS and dial non Skype Subscriber numbers as well as give your project a unique phone number.

FTP - Cyberduck Site
Cyberduck allows you to see the folders and files that make up a website and is used to move files from your desktop to the website

Text Editor - SubEthaEdit Site
SubEthaEdit allows you to edit the text of those files.
